A detailed programme is now up on the schedule page.
The rough schedule of the 5th IOAA is now on the Schedule page. A detailed schedule will be given out on arrival.
The Group competition rules are now available on the website. My apologies for putting this up so late - we had some last-minute discussion about the details. Please take the time to read through the rules and make sure your students understand them, as the group competition will be the first competition event.
Materials funded by European Southern Observatory (ESO) - postcards, books and posters presenting beautiful astronomical objects - have arrived at the Silesian Planetarium. They will serve as additional prizes for the participants of 5th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics.
At the last count, it appears that we will have 30 teams from 27 countries (3 guest teams, from China, Iran and Poland). Unfortunately at the last minute the teams from Egypt and Turkey have been unable to attend. Even so, this will be the largest IOAA so far, and with several new countries - particularly from Europe. We welcome you all in 3 weeks!
The calculators for the competition will be Citizen SR135N basic scientific calculators, with basic scientific and statistical functions (trignonometric, logarithmic, power, mean, standard deviation but not linear regression). All students will be provided with these calculators and will be required to use them. They will not be allowed to use their own calculators during the competition.
2011 brings the end of the first five-year term of office of the President of the IOAA and of the Secretary of the IOAA. Therefore, elections for the posts of President and Secretary will be held during the 5th IOAA. Candidates should be proposed to the Local Organising Committee (ioaa.loc@ioaa2011.pl) before 24th July 2011. The LOC will then contact each candidate to determine if they agree to stand, inform the International Board and list the candidates on this website. Please see the elections page for more details.
